Gracemount High School - UNICEF: Rights respecting school Award

Gracemount High School

UNICEF: Rights respecting school Award

At our excellent ‘Respect Week’ assemblies last week it announced to all our pupils that we are about to begin our journey towards becoming a Unicef: Rights Respecting school.

The Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA) uses the Convention on the Rights of the Child as a framework for educational improvement that aims to transform the whole learning environment with a consistent, rights-based approach.

The RRSA aims to promote children’s rights in schools in two ways: by supporting schools to ensure that rights are embedded in their ethos and policy-making; and by offering resources and activities to ensure that children and young people can learn about children’s rights in the classroom and beyond.

We have already established an enthusiastic working group of pupils and staff to drive things forward however we would welcome anyone who is keen to get involved in this exciting initiative to get in touch. Our target is achieve the award over the next three years and we already have some exciting projects and ideas in the pipeline. We plan to keep everyone updated on our progress through a monthly blog here on the website.
